Illustration Friday - Sacrifice

These are a couple of paintings I did for an “Australia Remembers 1945-1995” Exhibition and competition in 1995
The first one shown here “The Telegram” was the winning prize.
Both oil paintings were done with sitters and still life arrangements.
“The Telegram”
Oil on stretched canvas
22x24 inches

The Telegram was about the moment all wives and mothers of soldiers fear most - Notification of their love ones lost or killed.
“Grief”
Oil on canvas
28x40 inches

The nurses of wartime must suffer so much seeing the soldiers die.
This painting was about a nurse who came across someone she knew and couldn’t hold back her grief.
A sad contribution this week but an important reality of why we should all try to get along - even a day-to-day !

GEE THANKS EVERYONE.
I GUESS I MANAGED TO TELL THE STORY IN THESE. I DID PUT ALOT OF THOUGHT INTO IT AT THE TIME. THANKS AGAIN :)

Nice work. In the top one, if you sit quietly, you can almost hear a clock ticking and the muted sounds from outside.

Wow, these are both very powerful yet tender. You're a very accomplished artist. I also very much like the panting yu posted on the 11th.
